My 1st King cake

Yesterday I was on Facebook and I came across the most delicious picture. My Brother's wife had made king cake for him and his office. I am love king cake. I enjoy the ooey gooey goodness filled inside and sugar coated outside. The fillings are endless from different fruits to cream cheese. There is even a chocolate and coconut filling (aka voodoo king cake). Over the past 2 weeks, I have seen king cake everywhere from the store to pinterest, but my sister in laws king cake inspired me. I went straight to the kitchen and started baking. I used the same recipe as her. She adapted her recipe from allrecipes.com. She noted that she doubled the filling and shaved 10 mins off the cooking time.I love the cinnamon filling . I even shared by taking some to work and it was a big hit . Next time  I think I will  go for a pineapple or cherry filling. But that chocolate coconut filling sure does sound sinfully good. Note This recipe yields 2 cakes so you could make 2 different fillings. Here is the link to the recipe for the Mardi Gras King Cake .
I colored sugar with food gel and attempted to gently sprinkle on top.  Note to self  just color the icing and  drizzle on top. That is what my sister in law did and man it looked good. But I attempted to fancy with the colored sugar, it didn't turn out as pretty but it tasted yummy!

2nd king cake This time I used a sifter to add my sugar. This was a much more delicate look. Still gonna just color the icing and drizzle on top next time

Seussified

My sewing room has been Seussified. My sister in law is pregnant and asked me to make the nursery decor. I was eager to get started. She even asked me a million times "Are you sure it's not too much work." I replied NONSENSE, I love to sew and would be a happy to create a unique one of a kind nursery for my precious nephew. (Baby M) After ordering almost every Dr.Seuss fabric available, 13 total, I couldn't wait till it arrived. We set a day to get together and cut out all the fabric for each project. (I dread cutting fabric by the time I finish cutting I have lost my creative bug and have to wait till another day to create) After the beautiful, bright and fun Dr.Seuss fabric arrived, We got to cutting. We cut and cut and cut till our thumbs were sore but we had fun looking at the fabric over and over. I think we pointed out a million times that day which was our favorite one. This changed hourly, so hard to choose.
So now it is time to start sewing. This is fabric pieces for the quilt. The inspiration for the quilt came from this blog http://quiltingbyjudith.blogspot.com/2010/11/dr-seuss-quilt.html . I just love the colors. They are so fun and bright. Baby M is gonna have the best nursery.

Here are a few pics I took while starting on the quilt.
